Why should I buy from Prestige Homes? to top

Our company has been in business for more than 30 years. Beginning as a small family enterprise, Prestige Homes is now one of Atlantic Canada's largest home builders and part of the Shaw Group, a century-old company with deep roots in the Maritimes. Our approach to business reflects our tradition - we are committed to excellence in everything we do, from innovative design to outstanding construction quality to caring customer service.

What kinds of homes does Prestige Homes build? to top

We provide a wide range of high quality homes to suit just about anyone's preferences, needs and budgets. Our Designer Series offers pre-designed family homes, from ranches to Capes, with great options for personalizing layouts and features. The Encore Series is taking our traditional mini-homes to new levels of design, finishing and living comfort. And our Signature Homes are custom designed and built just for you.

What's the difference between a Prestige home and a site-built home? to top

It's all in the process. A Prestige home is built indoors, protected from the weather in a climate-controlled factory environment, by skilled and trained trades using advanced precision equipment and construction techniques. Factory building is a very efficient construction process with built-in quality control. The result is consistently high quality, quick turn-around and guaranteed delivery. In other words, a Prestige home is built right, on time and on budget - every time!

Do the homes look different? to top

Factory building is a way of constructing homes of superior quality, not a style or a look. There are few limits on the design, size or style of factory-built homes. They can range from starter homes to luxury residences and can fit into any location or neighbourhood, from rural acreage to urban infill to adult lifestyle communities.

What sets your homes apart from your competitors? to top

We believe that nobody offers a better home. Our construction standards are higher than most (e.g. R-25 walls in our Designer Series homes rather than R20), and our design features are second to none (e.g. we put a premium on bright, open living areas and kitchen layouts that work efficiently for today's busy families). We also have an incredible selection of flooring, tiles, cabinets and other finishes for you to choose from.

Can I make changes to your plans? to top

By all means! With a Prestige home, you get to personalize your home. All of our Designer Series homes offer pre-designed alternative floor plans and exteriors. And for all of our homes, we'll also work with you to incorporate specific interior or exterior details you want, so you get the home that is completely right for you and your family.

Can I bring in my own plans? to top

Yes, we are happy to build your home from your plans. Whether you bring us a complete set of architectural drawings, your own sketches or a scrapbook of ideas and images, our designers in our Sussex plant will work with you and your Prestige builder to create your own, unique Signature home.

Are Prestige homes built to the building code? to top

Yes, all our homes meet the National Building Code of Canada, including the Encore Series, the Designer Series and our Signature Homes.

What's a modular home? to top

It refers to a home constructed in modules that are partially completed in the factory, and then assembled and finished on your site. The number of modules can range from two for a simple one-storey plan to six, eight or more modules for a large multi-level home. Depending on the particular plan, the home may be 75% to 90% finished in the factory; the site work may take from one to several weeks. Most Prestige homes are modular.

What's a panelized home? to top

This refers to homes that are built in panelized wall sections in our panel plant in Sussex and shipped to the customer's site, where the sections are assembled and the home completed.

How far do you ship your homes? to top

Distance is not a barrier. We routinely sell and ship throughout Atlantic Canada and Northeastern US. We also sell homes to Europe, particularly Germany and England, and as far away as Japan. Overseas customers should contact Prestige Homes directly.

How do I buy a Prestige home? to top

The first step is to contact the Prestige builder closest to you. We have a network of sales centres throughout Atlantic Canada and the Northeastern US. Our builders are professional, experienced and well equipped to handle all aspects of your purchase.

Where are Prestige homes built? to top

The homes are constructed in our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in Sussex, New Brunswick and brought to your site where your Prestige builder will finish it inside and out. We encourage prospective home buyers to make an appointment to tour our plant to see how this unique building process works - once you have visited us, you'll wonder why all homes are not built this way. And our home buyers are always welcome to visit the plant with their builder to check on the progress of their home.

Are there model homes we can see? to top

Visiting a model home is one of the best ways to experience a Prestige home-you can see, touch, feel and sense the superb construction, the outstanding finishes and the fabulous features of our homes. Many of our builders have a sales pavilion or a sales court with one or more model homes, or your can visit the sales court at the Prestige facilities in Sussex. Click here for a map of sales centres.

Does Prestige Homes finance the homes? to top

No, but we have a good working relationship with local banks and lenders. If you want, your Prestige builder will assist you through the process of getting a mortgage for your home by referring you to lenders, setting up appointments, and so on. That's just part of the service you get when you buy a Prestige home.

How do you price your homes? to top

Every home we build is priced separately. That's because every home is different, as each home buyer makes many personal decisions about floor plans, features and finishes that affect the price. Your Prestige builder will work with you to choose the home that best suits your budget and your preferences.

Is the price guaranteed, or can I expect cost overruns? to top

Once all your choices have been made and confirmed with Prestige Homes, and the final contract has been signed by all parties, the price of your home is firm and guaranteed.

Do you have land available? to top

Many of our customers already own or rent land when they buy a home from us. If you are looking for land, our builders are familiar with what's available in their community and can refer you to the best sources. In addition, Prestige Homes is a partner in freehold subdivisions in Fredericton and Sussex, NB. Contact us for more information.

How long will it take before the home is ready and I can move in? to top

A general rule of thumb is 10 weeks from the time we receive the order from your builder, but it can vary. Some seasons are busier than others. A custom home may take longer. Waiting for special products may delay start-up; and so on. But once start and delivery have been scheduled, you can expect your home to be built on time, without delays. Completion on your site can take anywhere from a single day to several weeks, depending on the house and additional on-site work needed, such as garages, decks and landscaping.

What will I be responsible for onsite? to top

Typically our builders offer turnkey services, meaning that they can look after site preparations, including your home's foundation and service hook-ups. Or you can sub-contract this work to others, if you prefer. Regardless, you will be responsible for making sure that you have the required municipal permits and approvals. Your Prestige builder will guide you through the process.

Can I do some of the site work myself? to top

In theory, yes! In practice, we caution against taking on any of the work unless you have the time, the knowledge and the experience to do it well. For instance, a poorly done foundation can cause problems with uneven settling and in extreme cases may void the warranty on the home. Our advice is to leave the work to the professionals.

What's the warranty on your homes? to top

All workmanship and materials in the home is warranted for the first year you own your home. This is sometimes referred to a "bumper to bumper" warranty. A 7-year extended warranty covers major structural flaws. In addition, you'll get specific warranties from the manufacturers on many of the products used in your home, from heating equipment to flooring and roofing. Your Prestige builder will explain the details of the warranty to you, including our after-sales program and how to request warranty service, should it be needed. You'll also get our Prestige Home Owner's Manual for future reference.

Are Prestige homes environmentally friendly? to top

Yes, they are. To begin with, factory building is environmentally friendly because it minimizes construction waste, and the precision systems used in a factory result in greater home energy efficiency thanks to tight, draft-free construction. In addition, all our homes include extra insulation, beyond what's required by building codes. We also pay careful attention to indoor air quality, so you can enjoy a comfortable and healthy living environment. Our ComfortPlus package, standard for the Designer Series, includes premium windows and doors and a Heat Recovery Ventilator.
